Apply to Join the Local Food Network Board

The Board of Directors of the Northeast Indiana Local Food Network (NEILFN) is seeking individuals who are interested in serving our organization and our community as a member of our active, working Board.

The NEILFN Board provides leadership, governance and support for the programs, projects and strategic planning that guide our nonprofit organization and fulfill our mission. The Northeast Indiana Local Food Network is expanding the size, capacity and diversity of our Board as our organization prepares to develop our new Strategic Plan in early 2025.

Serving as a Member at Large of our Board is a great opportunity for individuals who are passionate about local food and service to our community to get involved and use your skills to strengthen our local food system. Applications to join the Board are encouraged at any time.

The Northeast Indiana Local Food Network supports the growth of a vibrant local food marketplace across Northeast Indiana. We help to connect and grow the local food economy for our region’s local food producers and businesses. 

Board of Directors Member at Large Job Description

Leadership, Governance and Oversight

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the NEILFN Director, Board Officers and other Members at Large as together you develop and implement the NEILFN strategic plan

  • Approve NEILFN annual budget, audit reports, and all legal and fiduciary responsibilities

  • Assist the NEILFN Director and Recruiting Committee in identifying and recruiting new Board Members

  • Partner with the NEILFN Director and other Board Members to ensure that board resolutions are carried out

  • Work in good faith with other Board Members as partners towards achievement of the organization’s goals

  • Read all board meeting materials and actively participate in meetings

  • Actively serve on at least one board committee or task force, and take on special assignments as needed

  • Act as an ambassador for the NEILFN in the community

  • Ensure the NEILFN’s commitment to a diverse board and staff that reflects the communities we serve

Fundraising

NEILFN Board Members at Large will consider NEILFN a philanthropic priority and make and / or seek annual gifts that reflect that priority. To permit NEILFN to credibly solicit contributions from foundations, organizations, individuals, NEILFN expects each Board Member to make an annual contribution that is commensurate with their financial capacity.

Board Participation and Term

Board Members at Large agree to a three year term with the option of renewal for one consecutive term. Board meetings are held monthly, twelve times per year. Board Members are expected to attend 75% of meetings in person or virtually.
